Installation in metal doors & UPVC coated metal doors
The presence of a metal plate in a door can influence the performance of
SureFlap, reducing
the range of the microchip reader. Fitting the mounting adaptor shown on our website
allows
for a bigger hole to be cut thereby increasing the distance between the
metal of the door and
the chip reader. This will in turn minimise any ill-effect to the chip
reader
The following may be affected:
- Metal skin doors
- Security doors
- Metal garage doors
- UPVC coated metal doors
Before purchasing, check for the presence of a metal plate in
your door. Note that
UPVC coated metal doors often look the same as standard UPVC doors, using a
magnet may
help to establish this. (Also check carefully once the door panel has been cut).
For most situations the SureFlap will work effectively as the read range will still be sufficient for
the majority of microchips. However, you may experience intermittent operation or failure to
open for your cat. Fitting the mounting adaptor shown on our website will
improve the read range of the chip reader and should resolve any
problems. (see
